BLUE BIRD (2009) 24 x 36 in.  Oil on Canvas.
I got a request from my sister in law for a painting.  She left the
subject matter to my discretion.  I was aware of her interest
in bird watching, so I decided to make that the theme of my
painting.  I photographed blue birds, and my neighbors birch
trees, and combined them in Photoshop to achieve a satisfying
composition.  I was happy with her reaction when I presented
her the painting.

TIGER (2009) 30 x 40 in. Oil on canvas.
I found this picture of a tiger in a book and thought it would make a
great painting.  So after rearranging  some of the background pine
tree limbs and cropping it a bit, I decided it needed to be created
on a larger scale.  This is one of my largest paintings  to date.

STAG (2010)  24 x 36 in. Oil on canvas.

RHINO (2001) 18 x 24 in. Oil on masonite board.
A friend of mine took this photo of a rhinoceros at the Cleveland
Zoo.  When he showed it to me I told him it was interesting and
would be fun to paint. It turned out to be one of my favorites.

STEER SKULL AND SPIDER (2004) 16 x 20 in. Acrylic on
canvas.  Painted for my friend Celeste, who has a pet Tarantula.

CAPE BUFFALO (2007) 16 x 20 in. Oil on canvas.
I came across this photo of a cape buffalo and thought it would
be fun to paint.  It is one of my favorite animals  I have painted
this animal several times, and will be showing them in
future posting.

GOLDEN RETRIEVER (2008) 16 x 20 in. Oil on canvas.
I created this painting for a very good friend in memory of her
Golden Retriever, which she loved very much.

WOLF (2010) 18 x 24 in. Oil on masonite board.

RAGE (2010) 30 x 40 in. Oil on canvas.

STARE DOWN (2005) 30 x 24 in. Acrylic on canvas.

MACAW (2001) 12 x 20 in. Oil on masonite.

CARDINAL (2009) 18 x 24 in. Oil on canvas.
The reference for this painting is a number of photos I took.
Using  Photoshop I assembled the varies pieces of the photos to
achieve the desired composition.

GORILLA (2009) 24 x 18 in. Acrylic on canvas.
I painted this picture from photos I took of a silver back gorilla
at the Cleveland Zoo.   I ad-libbed the background and rocks.

BRITTA (2010) 20 x 16 in. Oil on canvas.
I painted this picture for my brother and sister in law in memory
of their beloved  Alaskan Malamute, Britta.

SADIE (2007) 14 x 18 in. Oil on canvas.
I painted this picture of my sister’s dog for a Christmas
gift a few years ago.  Sadie was a bit of a challenge.  She
was a deep dark black with very little markings, making hard
to distinguish any details.
